A quietly elegant yet infinitely memorable Chardonnay: like meeting a beguiling stranger who doesn’t give it all away instantaneously, then realizing that the journey of getting to know them will be the very best part.

Barrel-aged for eight months, the luxurious oak character begins to reveal itself though the wine’s soft and sumptuous nose, inviting you in with gentle aromas of coconut and vanilla bean, like the finest crème pie. The palate is wide awake and utterly distinct, with developed fruit flavours of macerated pear and bruléed pineapple. A sprinkle of crunchy honeycomb and a fascinating note of freshly churned rum raisin ice cream round out the palate, then finished off with bright acidity and a touch of sea salt.

The Cape was born to pair with fresh seafood, unapologetically poached in slightly too much butter.

THE STORY BEHIND THE WINE

THE CAPE

Hot and cold mixing in plain sight. Far and wide, here and there. Two oceans separated by name only, but it’s obvious when you see it. Two hands, held together.

The journey up can be easy, but some choose the long way. High above, almost in the clouds but not quite. On a table, flat and wide. With chairs and space for anyone and everyone.

Even from afar, the pain is evident. Embedded in the earth like dried lava. The old and the new, flowers, from ashes.

Only here for a moment, but emotion swells. The cape; shelters one from rain, but falls unnoticed otherwise.
