This light yet lively Pinot Noir wakes you up like the first cool breeze of autumn on a late summer night.

Westward epitomizes the concept of an earthy red, there’s something so essential about it, the kind of wine that makes you understand exactly how and why humans have been drinking wine for as long as they have. The nose is savoury and mineral, crying out for a salty hard cheese, giving way to a “BC does Burgundy”-style palate that calls to mind the aromas one might encounter on a formidable hike: notes of tart cherry, pine needle, and forest floor. A five-o-clock shadow of tannin is anything but overbearing, impeccably balanced by classic cool climate acidity and a kiss of oak.

This wine simply begs to be drunk outdoors, in as remote of a location as possible, preferably fireside with grilled steak and s'mores for dessert.

Open the bottle to give it a little air, then throw it in the fridge for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour (depending on your personal chilled red comfort level) If you want to get fancy, you can decant this one for 20-30 minutes as well.

THE STORY BEHIND THE WINE

WESTWARD

Butterflies. Dreams of being on a journey on a ship without a destination. Westward with unformed ideas and questions. A city of forests, stone buildings and youthful aspirations. New faces and possibility, an overwhelming feeling of relief.

A day of ceremony, adorned in white. In front of those who nurtured the potential of this moment. Through pain and tears, in spite of failure. A graduation to start, a promise. Broad young shoulders ready to carry the weight of the past and the future.

Fall air and a horizon of everything new. Leaves smoldering of amber and red, painting the ground beneath crisp air. Ending one journey while embarking on the next. Westward.
